A Typical Class

Below is a typical class structure. We don't always follow it but you are likely to find each class contains a significant number of the elements listed below.

Basic Training:

 

Un Soku Undo – Foot movements

Tega tana go dosa – Hand and foot movements

Tsu kuri – Breaking balance by Atemi waza sliding feet without uke.

            Shomen ate, Gyaku gamae ate & Gedan ate

 

Tegatana Awase – Hand to hand moving around mat.

Sei chu sen no bogyou – Defense by central line following from Tegatana Awase.

Gashou uke – Defense with 2 hands (prayer position).

Tegatana no bogyou – Defense 1 hand blade.

Sho tei awase – heal of hands and opposite feet pushing across mat.

Hiriki no ren shu – Neutralising practice from 2 hand wrist grip.

 

Ukemi – Break falls

 

Balance Breaking Techniques

Nana hon no kuzushi – 1st 7 balance disturbing techniques

Tsu kuri no Renshu – breaking balance by 5 Atemi waza with uke, throw on 3rd or 5th

Go no Sen no Kuzushi – Breaking balance from an attack with tanto

8th Kyu, first red belt
techniques from a grab to to the wrist - right to right, or left to left:·

aigamae katate dori - shomen ate, oshi taoshi, kote gaeshi (same side regular grip - front strike, elbow push down, outer wrist twist)

7th Kyu, second red belt
Three techniques from a grab to to the wrist - left to right, or right to left:·

gyakugamae katate dori - aigamae ate, hiki taoshi, tenkai kote hineri
(opposite side regular grip - same stance strike, elbow pull down, inward wrist twist with body turn)

6th Kyu, third red belt
Three techniques:·                    
koho ryote dori - gyakugamae ate
(grasp both hands from behind - opposite stance strike)·                    
aigamae katate dori - waki gatame
(same side regular grip - side lock)·                    
hanza handachi gyakugamae ate katate dori tenkai kote gaeshi
(opposite side regular grip, tori/defender kneeling - outer wrist twist with body turn)

    MAE OTOSHI - "The Forward Drop."

Hiki kari Geiko – Randori practice some resistance and counter.

 

Goshin No Kata (Koryu Dai San) - self defence kata required for brown belt and above.
